Even producing a rainbow bouncy ball (on FCPX only, the rest of the computer works perfect even during the FC lags). I've noticed that sharing is so much faster however creating new Libraries and even Projects takes a while. It is upgraded tp BigSur and runs SUPER SMOOTH except for FCPX. I recently purchased a new iMac 5K 2020 with 16BG graphics and I upgraded the RAM to 128GB! Thank you for your time and understanding.įinal Cut Pro Slow After Upgrading to BigSur 2020 iMac 5K 128GB RAM 16GB Graphics Hello, I hope your day finds you well. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I bought the new studio to get away from all these problems that I experienced on my old outdated iMac from 2014. From everything I understand the Studio shouldn't be struggling at all especially because I haven't pushed it near its limits. I don't see how I can be the only one experiencing these issues with this brand new machine. I am currently using the newest edition of iMovie. I never know when I made need to use something that I have already shot. The whole point in getting the studio was for me to be able to dig back in old footage when need be. So iMovie doesn't haven't to preload so many projects all at once. I went threw my library and manually deleted some old projects that I probably won't use. This was a big investment and my lively hood and it slows down my work flow down a lot, takes me longer to do everything because of the lag. The only other thing I noticed was it happened also when I overlayed footage over a clip. All my videos wind up under 30 mins when the edit is completed, most around 15 min mark. The only thing that stands out is, it happens when I do my initial editing, when the project is at its longest ranging from 1 hr to 1hr and a half. I have experienced this with1080 GoPro footage and also 4k drone footage. The issues I am having is lagging and extreme slowness. So I brought some old projects over from my old iMac via external hard drive. IMovie on Mac Studio issues Hey guys, I recently bought the Mac studio: m1 max, 64gb ram, & 4tb flash drive. I am extremely limited and I can't work like this.ĭoes anyone have any idea what could be wrong? In my opinion, everything should run super fast and without any issues, but I always had the feeling that my machine is just using a single core or doesn't want to wake up from a power nap or so. I even uninstalled Google Chrome because I read that it could affect my performance. My CPU load is under 10% most of the time, my disk speed is about 2400MB/s write and 2200MB/s read, my used memory is approximately 25GB and I have about 1TB (of 4 total) of free disk space. Motion starts acting up when I open it and it doesn't even open simple files with big objects anymore it just crashes. I remember that I was very disappointed back in 2018 when I bought this machine, because I thought I would get a race car so to speak, but I refuse to accept that this is the maximum performance I can get. I have to work with 8K R3D files and 4K 120fps videos, I need to be able to work with multi-cam clips and I need to be able to work with layers and effects. I can't even playback a proxy 4K video in real-time, without frame dropping. I'm extremely frustrated because finishing my work takes so much longer than it should.Īnd still, FCPX and Motion are acting like I was working on my 2014 MacBook Pro. I've been trying to find the reason why I can't work on my iMac Pro smoothly for a very long time but I just can't find it.
